From Teri Kruse Carter

"OK guys if you haven't heard me raving about it enough, here's one more review of Marianne Aleck's book, The Liberty Club. It is AMAZING and you should buy this book!  All the way through, the story was poignant and honest. You can feel the authenticity of emotion and fact through the words written on the pages. I finished the book a little earlier tonight, and I just wanted the book to continue. Marianne is a born storyteller, and this story is fascinating. I could read books written by her for the rest of my life and never get tired of her 'voice'. Absolutely incredible labor of love that brings great honor to her family. So, there it is, my 5 star review." - Teri Kruse Carter

Goodreads Review from Mike!

"Great book! The Liberty Club took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions. Marianne was able to share the story of several generations of her family in a way that made me feel the love her family shared for each other but also she didn’t gloss over the sad or bad times. Marianne was able in her words to really let us feel the raw emotions. This story really touched my heart. At times I was filled with joy and other times tears were flowing down my face. One part I was really angry at her dad but in the end I learned Marianne and the Aleck family were so very lucky to have a father who loved them with all his heart. I will always cherish this book and will read it again in the future. Marianne has a great gift in being such a great storyteller. I hope to see more from her in the future."- Mike

5 Stars by Rock Alger

I do a lot of reading in my spare time and thoroughly enjoyed this book "THE LIBERTY CLUB" written by Marianne Aleck. She not only is a born story teller, but has the writing ability to take the reader back into time to the years of "The Greatest Generation" and feel what it was like to live in that bygone era.Reading her descriptive colorful style was refreshing to say the least.I would highly recommend reading this masterpiece and climb into Marianne 's time machine! I also would not be surprised if her story is transformed into a studio movie production in the very near future, for this classic is a true gem!

This is a heartwarming and amazing story!

This is a heartwarming and amazing story that I believe everyone would enjoy and the best part, it's true!! It's a love story you would see in a movie! When I read stories like these I just have so much admiration for what these people went through. They endured war, poverty, and loss that I personally could never imagine coming out of and still being able to go on in life. This story shows us the true power of love and family. The writer takes you on an amazing journey and you almost feel as if you are right there watching the story as it happens. I hope Marianne continues writing and telling these wonderful stories!!!

It's harrowing, lovely, interesting and over all, beautiful.

As an avid reader of non-fiction and at that, memoirs in particular, I loved this book. However, this book may also appeal to fiction lovers, since much of it reads like a novel. The stories of WWII, of the author's Greek and French ancestors immigrating to America, and of life in America in the early and middle 20th century, are all mesmerizing. The Liberty Club was a place but it was also an attitude (as the description states) and in my opinion the attitude could be summed up as loving, forgiving, enduring, and generous. Most of the family members and other people described in this book encompassed all of these traits most of the time, and the few who didn't were blessed anyway by those who did. Maybe that's how life works best. So this book could also be considered a manual for life with the instructions to love, forgive, endure, and be generous. For this family, The Liberty attitude didn't just work, it played out beautifully and is now a brilliant legacy that we can all reference and learn from, because one of them took the time to write a book about it and share it with the world. I feel indebted to writers like Marianne Aleck, who in sharing their life stories help make the world a more beautiful place. (also I loved all the photos! such great photos)

"I couldn't get to sleep last night because I had finished your book the night before.....I have so many emotions churning up from your beautiful story......It could be a movie, a mini-series....so full of life, love, a great helping of history that isn't contained in social science books, a conscious effort to tenderly tell the many stories of your ancestors with a nod to the reality of arranged marriages, the "stick to-it-ness" of our parents' generation, the love of freedom, family, and fellow human beings. I cried (and still can at the drop of a hat!) at the "you-know-what" part, and plan to re-read the book again. BEAUTIFULLY AND LOVINGLY WRITTEN.....I THANK YOU FOR making me see history through another's eyes." - Patricia Smith
