November 2018: Lee Brundige, Camp Fire evacuee, heartfelt reaction. -The file below is of Lee Brundige, a WWII Veteran and survivor of the Camp Fire in Paradise, CA. Having lost his home to the fire, he was 'adopted' by a wonderful Oroville couple, Tracy Grant and her beau Josh. I wanted to do something for him so I asked if Lee liked to read and Tracy said "Yes". I knew The Liberty Club was right up his alley since much of the book takes place during the era of the Greatest Generation, Lee's generation. So, I sent Lee an early Christmas present. This was his reaction. What a beautiful soul he is~ The photo is of Lee's house after the fire. Photo credit Tracy Grant.
November 11, 2017: Children of Fallen Patriots Charity Dinner - Riverside Yacht Club - Connecticut. Once again Ms. Aleck and her plus one, Lori Fishburn, were invited as guests to the annual Charity Dinner to raise money for children who have lost a parent in the war. This worthwhile cause raised $2.5 million that night!! Thank you Tom and Nora Tsivgas for inviting us. It was an honor to attend.
June 14, 2017: Marianne Aleck had the good fortune to be invited as a guest to the YBC Charity Dinner in New Jersey. The charity raises money for the children of fallen heroes. The guest speaker was General David Petraeus who at one time was a member of the 509th Airborne unit. This is the same re-activated unit Marianne's father Johnny was an original member of during WWII, which she writes about in The Liberty Club. It was a great honor for Ms. Aleck to gift a copy of her book to the General as well as take part in this auspicious occasion.
